Just a Poet

im just a poet for the broken
words for the weak hearted
lonely hands typing pain out
finishing something I shouldve never started

sad words are flowing through
nothing important coming out
I thought about it for hours
theres nothing left for me to wonder about

waited my whole life to find it
and lost it before I knew
used to think my words came from nowhere
until the first time I wrote about you

you find yourself broken on a sidewalk
alone with only a pen
your hand becomes the notepad
and the air around you, your friend

I wont be the broken one anymore
Ive said it a thousand times
im a poet FOR the broken
nothing from my face, but teary eyes

will I always be that girl
the one hiding in the dark
too scared to show what I am worth
with a much too fragile heart

am I destined to be lonely
with only notebooks as my retreat
my soul inside of pages
waiting for someone to read

is it fair that i be locked up
afraid to grow wings, to try
Im afraid Ill always be the broken poet,
instead of the butterfly...
